Prof. Henry Liu of University of Michigan USA visited our111 base
May 3, 2016

Sponsored by the 111 project, “Introducing talents base for discipline innovation on Vehicle-Road Information Sensing and Intelligent Transportation Systems”, Prof. Henry Liu, a tenure full professor and manager of traffic control laboratory at University of Michigan USA , recently came to our base for academic exchanges. Prof. Xiangmo Zhao met the guest. Heads of the personnel department, the international cooperation department and the Information Engineering School attended the meeting.

Prof. Xiangmo Zhao made welcome speech to Prof. Henry Liu, and introduced the basic information of Chang’an university, such as the history, scale, subject characteristics, talent training, and so on. He indicated that Chang’an university had a great influence both in China and abroad, and there would be a broad opportunity areas for cooperation with the Civil Engineering department and transportation research institute at the University of Michiganand. Prof. Henry Liu introduced the construction and operation of MCity (Car networking test site in Ann arbor campus of University of Michigan), and expressed the intention to cooperate with our 111 base of car networking. The two sides had an in-depth discussion for high-level talent introduction and academic echelon construction, and reached a consensus on cooperation and communication methods.

During the visit, Prof. Henry Liu visited the traffic information detection and control engineering laboratory of Shaanxi road traffic intelligent detection and equipment engineering technology research center and Weishui vehicle test ground. He made an academic report for teachers and students, entitled “The next generation of traffic control based on the connected car and automated vehicle”, and received high praise from the audience. After the meeting, Prof. Henry Liu had a pleasant communication and discussion with the head of personnel department and some teachers. They exchanged views on high-level talent introduction and joint training for outstanding young teachers and doctoral student, as well as cooperation of scientific research and related platform construction..

Dr. Henry Liu is currently a professor in Civil and Environmental Engineering Department at University of Michigan, one of the USA Ivy League universities. He is also a Research Professor at The University of Michigan Transportation Research Institute (UMTRI). Dr. Liu’s research focuses on traffic network monitoring, modeling, and control, including traffic flow modeling and simulation, traffic signal operations, network traffic assignment, and mobility applications with connected and automated vehicles. Dr. Liu is the editor-in-chief of “Journal of Intelligent Transportation Systems” and an associate managing editor of “Transportation Research Part C”. He is also on the editorial board of journals including “Transportation Research Part B”, “Network and Spatial Economics”, “Transportmetrica Part B”, and “IET Journal of Intelligent Transportation Systems”.
